Past News From Grunfeld German Shepherds

This page will be long as it's a recap of past news items we have had on our News page.

BIG NEWS here at Grunfeld, as we continue to lead the way in Eastern Canada in providing the worlds BEST German/European Bloodlines. We are pleased to introduce two new dogs here at Grunfeld. This lines are the top bloodlines in Germany today, their pedigrees speak for themselves and many have written articles about the bloodlines that we have here at Grunfeld. We are pleased to introduce Marlo vom Winnloh son of VA4 Pakros d`Ulmental SchH3. Pakros placed number 4 at the Sieger Show in Germany last year with a very strong progeny group.

At the same time we are pleased to introduce Freya von Pavora, she is the daughter of VA8 Vegas du Haut Mansard SchH3. Vegas has impressed many experienced followers of the breed as one of the best dogs to be seen in many years. Vegas is a son of Pakros and is expected to do very well again at this years Sieger Show.

These bloodlines are top in Germany and we are pleased to have them here in Nova Scotia. Our goal at Grunfeld is to use the best German bloodlines in our breeding program, coupled with our experience and lifetime of breeder support thus giving our clients the BEST puppies available in Eastern Canada.

The puppies from Sari and Robin are doing very well, we are pleased to introduce what we believe to be another first here in Eastern Canada, by providing a 24/7 LIVE camera view of the puppies and mother, exclusively for the clients on the waiting list for this litter.

I wanted to update a couple of things on the web site here , however April 1, is April Fools Day and I didn't want you to think that this was a joke as it's far from a joke. Most of our dog friends out there know of PETA (People For Ethical Treatment of Animals). PETA claims that they are the "top dogs" in saving, re homing animals and all things good for the thousands of lost cats, dogs and other animals in United States and Canada.

Let's put it this way, Peta's past is starting to catch up with them in a recent court case, much of PETA''s shine has worn off their self applied halo. Here is a web site that we would like to show you about that will supply and show all verifed materials showing how and exactly what PETA does. Please be advised this information is shocking. We ask you to share this information with your friends and neighbours. We don't normally speak out against things we would rather support projects, however PETA has gone well over the line several times in the past few months, our study and follow up indicates PETA's actions for the past several years have been wrong and PETA has abused their postion of trust. We will not be part of it any longer.

A major cat & dog Food Recall, is now well underway throughout North America. Menu Foods wet cat and dog food the "cuts and gravy" types processed between December and March. The culprit, according to company statements, may be a change in the supplier of wheat gluten, a protein used in the pet food recipe.

Of course, the recall has been educational for consumers as well. Your cat may only eat Sophisticat-brand cat food, because she's finicky and highbrow, and hates the Winn Dixie-brand because that's for poor strays. It may have been that Madame Whiskers couldn't form the words As we here at Grunfeld have said for the past decade when you pay large amounts of money for a "branded" product you are paying for the marketing of that brand, as many different products are made by the same company as proven by this recall

Here are the brands affected. PLEASE NOTE this is our information we are providing as a service to you, please check the Menu Foods link here for the most up to date list.

December 12, 2006
Article in Chronicle Herald regarding FCI/CKC issue (see below for more inform) I have had zero response from the e-mails and letters that have been sent. The CKC web site has not being updated on the matter since December 5, 2006. The board of directors had met on Dec 10 & 11 to discuss this matter with members of the CKC that wanted to attend however the CKC web site has no update as of Dec. 12, 2006. Lee Steeves the Nova Scotia CKC rep has updated her site regarding the matter, however not much said in her update to answer the real questions as to why the CKC CEO didn't respond to communications for 15 months to the FCI ??

December 11, 2006
Grunfeld German Shepherds is pleased to announce the arrival of a new dog. Anka Gila Duca Vallei, Anka was imported from a Holland working Kennel von de Duca Vallei ....... more

December 4, 2006
The Canadian Kennel Club has being ignoring requests for communications from the FCI, since Sept 2005. It 's a known and stated fact that the CEO of the CKC has ignored all communications. As a result the CKC's pedigree's for all dogs and all CKC titles after Jan 1, 2007 will not be accepted in any FCI country. The only three non members are Canada, US and the UK.

This is a major disaster for any dog breeder who sells dogs overseas or plans to show dogs around the world. If you area member of the CKC or own a purebred dog in Canada we urge you to contact the CKC and let them know this is not the way the organization should be conducting it's business. The CKC's main goal is the advancement of the canine not to take canine owners backwards. I have sent a letter to the Minister of Agriculture here in Canada as the CKC falls under their jurisdiction. I also sent a copy of Allan Peppers notice to his Ontario members of the CKC and a copy of the FCI bulletin advising of the sanction.

The Nova Scotia Rep for CKC has replied to our information request information her reply is shown below

Good Morning

Please let me apologize for not having been able to provide you this update sooner. Events have been changing so quickly that keeping up with responses has been challenging and providing accurate information even a greater challenge.
In an attempt to clarify the rationale used by teh General Assembly as a
basis for teh Resolution, the CKC Chair (Dwain) and the CEO have been in contact with the FCI through the Executive Director Mr DeClerq. Steps have been taken by the Board adn staff to begin a process to remove teh sanction.
This is an issue that the Board only became aware of last week as a result of an email received from a friend who had just returned from the world show. She had heard disquieting comments and was following them up with her contacts in Europe and at the same time asked for follow up with the Office in Toronto.

The information as I understood it was shared with the rest of the Board and the CEO. Mr Mauro responded immediately and began a review of his
correspondence. He noted that he had received correspondence from the FCI a year ago and had responded but the dialogue was inadvertently breached at some point early this year. It was not intentional and consisted of correspondence between the staff head of the FCI and our CEO. There were legitimate questions raised in the correspondence from FCI centering around Canadian judges advertising with business cards at FCI shows and listing qualifications that the FCI felt were misleading. They also expressed concern regarding one or more registries that the FCI recognizes in European countries but which are not now recognized by Canada. The issues appear on the surface innocuous enough and would seem to be easily manageable through discussion and follow up with the judges involved, as well as with the registries not yet recognized but who appear to have an interest in being added to our reciprocal agreements. Unfortunately, due to a simple communication break down, the FCI appears to have taken great offence. We do not have a full picture of the sequence of events that led to the Motion to discontinue the reciprocity currently enjoyed between the CKC and FCI. That picture will come in time and we as a Board will certainly work to develop a system to support it not happening again.

In the interim, we have been working with the CEO and the Chair to
re-establish a dialogue with the FCI. The first steps in our contacts have
been encouraging. We will continue to put ourselves forward to ensure that the FCI is certain that Canada holds it in the highest esteem and that we will work with them at their convenience to resolve any misunderstandings that have occurred.

We commit, as well, to keeping you informed of our progress.

Lee and Dwain
