Dog Trainer- Ann Marie Leadbeater M Ed. CTD
WE WILL DO HOUSE CALLS !!!
Masters of Education, (M Ed. )
(CTD) Certified Teacher of the Deaf
Specialist Educator of the Deaf
Started obedience training with my own dogs in 1978.
Have trained a multi high in trial O.T.Ch.
Have trained a multi high in trial C.D.
Have trained three other dogs to the CDX level.
Since then have attended training sessions and seminars to remain up to date with training methods.
I was the Evangeline Kennel Club puppy and beginner trainer for 8 years.
I was a trainer for 5 years with Citizen Canine.
I now train operant conditioning (clicker) classes for my own business, K9 Teacher, and have been doing so since 2002.
I have been a clicker trainer since 2002 under the mentorship of Heather Logan who has developed the dog program at Nova Womens’ Institution in Truro.
I hold memberships in the following clubs:
The Canadian Kennel Club,
The German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada
The Maritime Group 7 Club
Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde S.V.
The Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers
I consider myself qualified to work with dogs and their owners based on the following dog educational background that I have completed and the fact that I have lived with multiple dogs since 1978 and have been breeding German Shepherd Dogs since 1991. Grunfeld German Shepherds has Permanent Registration status with the CKC.
These people and seminars have provided valuable insight for me:
Paul Mueller, Kathy Stoner, Heather Logan, Christine Neilson, Barry and Cathy Gay, Ann Lyons, Mike Greenstein, Doug Teeft, Ron Morgan, Brian Kilcommons, Dr. Jean Dodds, Pat Trotter, Fred Lanting, Gordon Garrett, The McCanns, Carolyn Dockrill, Chris Bach, Nicholas Doddman, Stanley Coren, Wayne Hunthausen, Karen Overall, Susan Garritts, Chris Zinck, Jean Donaldson, Turid Rugass, Don Hanson, Brenda Aloff, Ed Gilbert, Raino Flugge, Darin Clarke.
These people taught about obedience, tracking, reading dog language, agility, health issues and breeding. This list will be added to as I attend more seminars.
I have attended three different symposiums at Guelph University, in Ontario, related to Dog Aggression, Dog Behaviour, and How Dogs Think.
I attended a seminar at Cornell University in New York on dog behaviour and aggression.
Another interesting seminar was based on Calming Signals in Dogs with Carolark prior to me attending the Turid Rugass seminar in Truro. Also included was a session on clicker training for scent discrimination. I have attended Ttouch seminars for both dogs and horses and I have also completed a Bach Flower Essence seminar.
I think that offering to work with a person’s dog is a very serious commitment. Trainers must stay up to date and should only be training without using any type of physical punishment. People need to ask about the credentials of the trainers because there is no licensing body to regulate this career/hobby choice.
I firmly believe that all puppies and older dogs should be trained with either a flat collar or a Gentle Leader, Halti type of control mechanism.
Certificates of Training Courses Attended.
